Kine as a helper with Kirby stored safely in his mouth.

Kine has his big role as a helper in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and Kirby's Dream Land 3. He is often one of the animal friend statues shown in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards when Kirby uses the Stone/Cutter ability.

[edit] Appearance and Personality

Kine is a big blue fish with yellow fins (tall ones on his top and bottom, small ones on each side of his body, and one short tail fin). His mouth is huge and generally left open, and he has yellow lips that match his fins. His eyes are often just staring ahead, portraying little emotion.

Kine is a relaxed and happy fish, though most of the time he just appears to have a blank expression. But be careful, when something really upsets him he is easily brought to tears.

Kine and Kirby with the Freezing Over (Ice) Ability.

[edit] Kirby's Dream Land 2

Kine, being a fish, is Kirby's help when it comes to traveling underwater. Kine can swim through tough currents easily, and even get Kirby to places he normally couldn't reach. Kine also allows Kirby to stay in one place while underwater. One of the most helpful things is that Kirby is able to swallow enemies and use abilities that he normally couldn't underwater. These abilities are often much better then the normal ones that are used in water. But, like most fish, Kine is very awkward and hard to control when outside of water. Here are how normal abilities change when Kirby is with Kine:

  • Burning ---> Giant Fireball
  • Cutter ---> Sonic Wave
  • Ice ---> Freezing Over
  • Needle ---> Spiny Fish
  • Parasol ---> Parasol Shield
  • Spark ---> Light Bulb
  • Stone ---> Slippery Rock

[edit] Kirby's Dream Land 3

Like in Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kine is once again an aquatic helper. His abilities have been enhanced though. Along with the amazing water movement, Kine's weight has now been used to crush small enemies. His land mobility has luckily been improved too. Now he moves with ease, as fast as many other characters, and his vertical jump reaches slightly higher than Kirby's does. Kirby can once again inhale enemies and use powers while underwater while with Kine. This time, his abilities are as follows:

  • Burning ---> Giant Fireball
  • Clean ---> Plunger
  • Cutter ---> Sonic Wave
    Kine as he appears in the anime.
  • Ice ---> Frozen Shell
  • Needle ---> Spiny Fish
  • Parasol ---> Parasol Topper
  • Spark ---> Light Bulb
  • Stone ---> Rock Dive

[edit] In the Anime

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, Kine has a bit more personality added to his character. But, many residents of Cappy Town still consider him dumb. This is not the case though, as Kine is unusually smart, and is even has learned how to write and read in very old languages. Kine also has a very large crush on Tiff, mainly because she wanders near the shoreline a lot. The fish is willing to do whatever it takes to get the girl of his dreams, even make evil deals with King Dedede. But Kine means well, he's just a little obsessed.
